Looking for.... Reichs Marks

I know e-bay is a possibility; but I prefer buying from a shop or individual.

I'm looking for '37 Hindenburg Issue 5 Reichs Mark pieces. I'm looking for a roll of 20. Any suggestions?

There is a site that has a lot of old 3rd Reich Silver coins.
If I remember the name I will PM you. If you want.

I have a couple of RM's sitting somewhere in the back of the safe.

I never thought there would be a big market for them.

Received order in good standing from Luke on Saturday. About a week to ship.

Coins were in little plastic holders. Would recommend. Good selection,
prices may be a bit high, not sure of other dealers prices.

These coins are historic. How negatively do people look at them?
I am trying to see what the opinion is.

Any thoughts?

Many people don't realize that During this time in Germany being a Nazi troop was not a decision it was necessary, whether you were for it or against it. Also, the swastika, was brandished on many things of daily use because of Hitler's rein. This DOES NOT mean that all Germans were or are Nazis.

Having served with the Army in W. Germany, 79-81 I found that the people there that were my parents age still,,, hmm I don't know how to express it in words but at the time I thought they resented Americans. Their kids on the other hand embraced us. That being said Agro, the coinage at that time, of which I may still have some floating around somewhere, I found to be beautiful. I still have this site open as I may want to have a few coins myself.

I remember then that a bratwurst, currywurst or knackwurst at the corner stand was about 2.5 marks ($1.50 U.S. depending on the exchange rate), mitte pomme frites (with french fries) and a hard roll.

Personal opinion? I like these coins, sorry I kind of lost it in my last post. I especially like the 5 Reichsmark coin, Potsdam Kirche (1934-1935). Simplicity at its finest, doesn't matter what the obverse (reverse) shows. If you have one I'd love to see a better picture of it.

Thanks,

Re: Looking for.... Reichs Marks

I think the German opinion of Americans has changed since that time. I am not positive, but I would say especially in the youth sector.
The last time I was there I was only 13 and not able to get a good enough sense of how this was.

I stopped at a yard sale the other day and I was met by a little old German woman, who much reminded me of my grandmother. I asked for coins and once again I was too late. She had just sold all her old German copper coins. I told her I wanted to return to Germany for vacation and she exclaimed with a nice accent oh, dear, you should, you should, it is beautiful (which it is, rich in history, my favorite being the Medieval times, have visited castles) and they love American's. I'm sure some do and some don't, as it seems most countries have a sector that hate Americans.

Regardless, these are historic coins. I do not have a 5 yet but when I do I will post either in thread or perhaps create user group you could join with a private album.

livtocruz, You were in the German Army? or stationed in Germany via US military?

Agro, I was with U.S.Army. My first duty station was in a town called Geissen (sp?). I was assigned to an Artillery unit for support as a radio operator for their microwave site and the whole little unit, about 20 people had a little corner of a German military site. Hush, hush and all that, :sarc: what the artillery guys did was guard a nuc site and in event of the true SHTF scenario aka Russia's launching or whatever to that effect. They were to turn over the warheads the the W. German military. My last year was spent in Pirmasens operating communications for Army Mars.

Currywurst, pomme frites and the famous hard roll were all the rage when I was in West Berlin. Yummmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!! I think they were under two marks when I was there.

I kicked a 2 Reichspfenning coin out of the dirt with the toe of my boot while setting up camo around 155 artillery while on alert against the russkies and the east german comrades. 1938 D which was minted in Munich. I still have it and I wouldn't trade or sell it for anything!
